Privacy Policy

UC Nature, part of the University of California, is committed to protecting the privacy of people who visit this website. This policy explains what information we collect through ucnature.org and how we use it.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit this website, our web servers may log information such as your IP address, the pages you request, the page that referred you to our site, your browser or device information, and the date and time of your visit. We use server logs to operate, maintain, and protect the website.

Website Analytics

UC Nature uses Independent Analytics Pro, a WordPress plugin, to understand how visitors use this website. It records information such as pages viewed, referring sources, and device or browser information.

The plugin developer says that Independent Analytics stores analytics data in the website’s WordPress database, does not use cookies, and does not send analytics data to the developer’s external servers. To recognize repeat visits, the plugin creates a visitor identifier by hashing an IP address with browser information. The developer says it stores the hashed identifier rather than the raw IP address. Learn more about Independent Analytics’ privacy practices.

We do not use Google Analytics.

Cookies

Independent Analytics does not use cookies. This website may use cookies needed for site features, such as logins or forms. You can adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies, though some features may not work as intended.

The third-party donation form linked from this website may use its own cookies. See the Donations section below.

Information You Provide

If you contact us, sign up for a newsletter, submit information through a form, or log in to the website, we use the information you provide to respond to you, provide the requested service, or manage your account.

Newsletter Sign-Up and Email Tracking

We use Gravity Forms to collect your name and email address when you sign up for UC Nature email updates. Form entries are stored in this website’s WordPress database, hosted by Pressable. We send your name and email address to Mailchimp to manage your subscription and send email updates. See Intuit’s Global Privacy Statement.

Our email updates use Mailchimp click tracking. When you click a tracked link in an email, Mailchimp routes the request through its servers before sending you to the linked page. Mailchimp reports can show which subscribers clicked, which links they clicked, and how many times. We use these reports to understand engagement with our email updates. See Mailchimp’s explanation of click tracking.

Donations

The Give Now page links to a donation form hosted by CashNet, a Transact Campus service. If you make a donation, information you enter on the form—such as contact, payment, and donation details—is collected to process your gift. CashNet says it handles information on behalf of the institution and directs users to the institution’s privacy policy for more information. See CashNet’s information about personal data and Transact’s privacy policy.

How Information Is Shared

UC Nature does not sell personal information collected through this website. We may share information with University of California units or service providers when needed to respond to a request, provide a service, process a donation, send email updates, or operate the website. We may also disclose information when required by law.

Website Hosting

UC Nature’s website is hosted by Pressable. Pressable may process technical information about website visitors as needed to host, maintain, and support the site. See Pressable’s Privacy Policy.

Other Websites

This policy applies to ucnature.org. Other University of California websites and third-party websites linked from this site may have their own privacy policies. Please review those policies when visiting those websites.
