The UC Nature Data Science Training Essentials program equips students with analytical techniques using the R programming language. Students access the curriculum through a web browser, eliminating the need for specific hardware.
Students meet remotely for weekly discussion sections and office hours led by near-peer mentors. As a capstone project students analyze a regional dataset, create data visualizations, and present their findings in lighting talks at the end of the training. Students also have the option to prepare posters and give talks at a symposium.
Additionally, students visit a UC Nature reserve to learn tidy data best practices, field data collection practices, and have the opportunity to network with researchers.
The 2025 program will run from June through August 2025.
